Luxury En Suite Rooms
Shibden Hall View
@ HOUGH HOUSE
Our Beautiful Property
Hough House was part of an estate in the 18th century and was owned by the wealthy and prominent Wilkinson family.
The estate adjoined land owed by the Lister family and Hough House has exceptional views of Shibden Hall and grounds.
Following Mr Wilkinson’s death in 1843 the estate was put up for sale. It was described as comprising of a substantial dwelling and lands adjoining on the south belonging to Ann Walker, who inherited Shibden Hall on the death of her wife Ann Lister in 1840.
About us
We, Philip & Adele Hopkins have owned Hough House for nearly 15 years whilst working in the hospitality business for over 20 years, previously owning and running successful restaurants & pubs in the area.
After semi retiring in 2019 and not wanting to move away from our children & 3 wonderful grandchildren, we decided to convert our family home into a luxury yet still homely small Bed & Breakfast with 5 beautiful en suite rooms.
We have converted our adjoining coach house into our new home so we can live on site and give our full care and attention to our new business and guests.
We hope you will love our property as much as we do, have a great stay with us and see the many great attractions close by.
Close to Shibden Hall
Shibden Hall dates back to 1420 and offers visitors a fascinating journey through the lives of the people who lived and worked here, including the noted diarist Anne Lister (1791 – 1840). It is the the focus of the BBC drama series written by Sally Wainwright, ‘Gentleman Jack’ exploring the life of Anne Lister (1791 – 1840) and those who lived in the Hall and Estate.

“Fantastic space close to Shibden Hall and surrounding parkland which is lovely to enjoy on a sunny day. Quiet and relaxing accommodation with a homely feel and comfortable bed. The coffee machine is a handy addition and the shower is great. Lots of amenities such as hairdryer, iron etc. too. Fantastic hosts who were responsive but not intrusive, we’ll be back”
